Minke de Vos
Senior Instructor of Tao Yoga and Inner Alchemy
I have been the director of Silent Ground Learning Centre on Read Island for over twenty years. People came from around the world to experience getting in touch with themselves and nature. Our retreats ranged from one week to eight-month programs. We offered teacher training and certification in Tao Yoga.
I now offer weekly classes in Vancouver and international workshops. This has been a big change of lifestyle. My remarkable recovery from a divorce, life-threatening crisis and heart transplant shows the sure effectiveness of my practice. These recent challenges have helped me to support other people’s healing processes with compassion.
I am certified by Mantak Chia, a world-famous Taoist Master. Certification includes: meditation, Chi Self-Massage, Tao Yoga, Chi Kung, Tai Chi, Healing Love and Inner Alchemy. I have studied with him for over 20 years. My training with Mantak Chia clarified safe and effective ways to work with energy. In 2002 I attended a Darkroom retreat for “Greater Enlightenment”, held at his center in Thailand. He has given me permission to certify instructors in the Living Tao practices.
At an early age I became aware of subtle energy flows and the magical weaving of sound, colour and movement. As an adult, during intensive retreats in Europe, my meditations became an inner dance. I experienced powerful Kundalini currents and expanded consciousness. Later I recognized some of these experiences in esoteric Taoist texts and realized their universality.
I studied Eurythmy for four-years, full time in Germany and was certified in 1982. For two years I taught Eurythmy at Quadra Island Waldorf School. Eurythmy, founded by Rudolf Steiner, is a beautiful art of movement, which brings poetic speech and music into alive expression. The truth in these graceful inherent gestures rang true to my soul. It is a refined way to move with the etheric/energy flows of cosmic forces.
I have a BFA in creative dance and other fine arts from UBC. Two of the several dance performances, which I choreographed, were explorations of the Five Elements, emotional transformation and energetic regeneration. My eight-year dance training included modern, ballet, Iranian, Feldenkrais, Laban and dance therapy.
My study of healing arts started with certification in Shiatsu /Acupressure. I experienced the healing and soul-nourishing power of the human voice by practicing for over 20 years the Werbeck method of ‘Unfolding the Voice’ with Christer Ekstrom, Curative Eurythmist.
I have been a student of Zen Master, Roshi Philip Kapleau and attended retreats with him in the States. I have practiced meditation with full time dedication for 20 plus years. It continues to be a very important pillar of my life.
I studied Chi Kung, including Medical Chi Kung, with Master Liang for 2 years
I am a co-creator of ‘Tao Tools’, guided CDs, videos and instruction booklets to support home practice, e.g. ‘Bells of Love’, a CD of playful ways to cultivate female sexual energy. My “Feminine Treasures” work is very popular.
My vision is to encourage people to cultivate serenity, happiness and wellness in their lives and manifest compassion through their bodies. I offer my love and joy for practice!
