Tai Chi Qigong: Yang Family Short FormJuly 02 to
July 07, 2010Tai Chi Qigong Yang Family Short Form
+ Buddha Palm: Healing Hands of Light Qigong
Taught by Marie Favorito
Retreat is open to all, beginner or advanced, which may be separated into different learning tracks. It doesn't matter what style of tai chi form (yang, wu, etc.) you've learned previously, as this course covers the fundamentals for any form. Also doubles as a HTIA Certification Course
This is probably the best short Tai Chi form ever designed: 8 postures, 5 directions, with unique spirals gracefully flowing left and right. Most forms only turn in one direction. By turning in both directions, it develops both left and right hemispheres of the brain and Energy Body.
Learning this short form will capture the essence of all Tai Chi, add poise and balance, and greatly improve your health. Much scientific research has now been done on the numerous health benefits of tai chi, from lowering blood pressure to restoring heart health to preventing falls amongst seniors.
This is the secret practice form of the original Yang family in China. They are said to have taught the long form so they could charge their rich clients more money – but mostly practiced this short form in the privacy of their home.
We’ll learn the inner structure of chi flow, breathing with total mind-body awareness. If you already know a tai chi form, this will help you to refine your Tai Chi with superb details and personal hands on attention - rooting, dan tian centering, expansion & contraction and
mindful choice.
What are some of the benefits? Tai Chi Chi Kung is the supreme ultimate in movement meditation. Tai Chi is a graceful series of movements performed in slow motion. Easy on the joints, it is a powerful stress reliever for a busy life. This simple 13 movement Yang style form for beginners incorporates all the Tai Chi principles - relaxation, grounding, energy flow and alignment. Because it is a short form, it is easy to quickly experience the inner structure, relaxation, alignment and energy of the longer Yang style Tai Chi forms.
You will also learn to move freely and naturally without stiffness or tension. The more quiet you become externally, the more energy can move internally. Tai Chi is both an expression of the Tao through movement and a personal practice for understanding and realizing the essence of the Tao. Explore the deep internal work necessary for effective Tai Chi practice. Tai Chi can brings many spiritual benefits as well. Learning the inner structure will improve posture and reveal the principles of absorption of the 3 natural forces, the Cosmic force, Earth force and Universal force.
It's useful to obtain a copy of Mantak Chia and Juan Li's The Inner Structure of Tai Chi before coming, but it will also be available at the retreat. This is one of the best practical books ever written on Tai Chi. It is also helpful to obtain a copy of Marie Favorito's Tai Chi Chi Kung DVD, one of the best made on this form.
Note: Students who already know this short tai chi chi kung form may enroll for a weekend option if you want to come for corrections only. If you do not know the form, you need to sign up for the full week to learn it. Jaime Culbert from Boston may be assisting with the corrections, integrating Alexander work into the Tai chi work. The weekend dates would be friday eve thru Sunday dinner.
Marie Favorito also has an excellent DVD of this form that is available from Healing Tao USA summer bookstore, and soon to be added to the webstore as well. Taught by: Marie Favorito
